Mingo Road is a major arterial street for the City of Tulsa with traffic counts growing rapidly. The project lies in a very flat area of the City within the Mingo Valley flood plain.

The City of Tulsa commissioned BKL’s team with George Rochelle as Project Manager to design improvements on Mingo Rd. from 51st Street to 61st Street. The task was to widen the road from two lanes to four lanes to accommodate more traffic.

As part of the project, BKL had to design a significant upgrade of the storm sewer system. At about 55th Street, Mingo Road crosses Mingo Creek, a major stream in the Mingo Valley Flood Control System. BKL performed hydraulic analysis of Mingo Creek tied to the Mingo Valley Master Plan. We then designed a reinforced concrete box bridge for the road crossing and we designed channel improvements along the Creek in both directions.

The project was designed using all PC Concrete paving. The design team was also responsible for coordinating with utility companies and preparing utility relocation plans for the City of Tulsa Utilities.
